Taxonomies of new tagging systems within the Internet?

November 6, 2007

What is Taxonomy? How is it explained within historical academia? And why this term has been adopted within the WWW and possibly why?

taxonomy) the science of finding, describing, classifying and naming living things.
retronymic: characteristics of a new word which describes something old. The comparative and the supralative adjunct relationships within the field or infra-order of Taxonymy.
The world wide web has again re-ordering it’s validity making it a more reliable source, bringing the world closer together.(see the Shrinking world). Taxonomy is the practice and science of classification.
Almost anything — animate objects, inanimate objects, places, concepts, events, properties, and relationships — may be classified according to some taxonomic scheme.
Most large companies have resources dedicated to Knowledge Management, often as a part of ‘Information Technology’ or ‘Human Resource Management’ departments, and sometimes reporting directly to the head of the organisation. As effectively managing information is a must in any business, Knowledge Management is a multi-billion dollar world wide market.
A repository is a place where specifically digital data are stored, where multiple databases or files are located for distribution over a network, computer location that is directly accessible to the user without having to travel across a network, where anything is stored for probable reuse this is possibly why the taxonymy is being upgraded!
Using a custom encoding for a specific application can be done with no loss of data. However, using a standard encoding such as ASCII is problematic if a symbol such as ‘ß’ needs to be converted but is not in the standard.
In consultation with the primary supervisor, the student decides on a general topic and undertakes appropriate research. When a draft of reasonable completeness has been finished and approved by the primary supervisor, the thesis is submitted for examination. For a higher degree such as a PhD, the examination usually includes an oral defense, described below. After the defense is completed and the thesis approved, copies are made available in the university library. The database for these journals has been in place for some time, and it has worked well for up-front information. There are now companies who employ people to search out valid data, this is where the new Taxonymy will help inform the world of valid opinions and ideas that can be further developed.
There can be strict presentation requirements for theses, including pagination, layout, type and color of paper, use of acid-free paper (where a copy of the dissertation will become a permanent part of the library collection), paper size, order of components, and citation style, which vary between institutions. These requirements may be checked page by page by the accepting officer before the thesis is accepted and a receipt is issued. Theses which are incomplete or incorrectly formatted may not be accepted. Failure to submit the thesis by the deadline may result in graduation (and granting of the degree) being delayed.

Knowledge Management (‘KM’) comprises a range of practices used by organisations to identify, create, represent, and distribute knowledge for reuse, awareness and learning. It has been an established discipline since 1995. Knowledge may be accessed, or captured, at three stages: before, during, or after knowledge-related activities. Different organizations have tried various knowledge capture incentives, including making content submission mandatory and incorporating performance measurement plans that maybe shows again Taxonymy for the WWW.

In conclusion these measurements may seem a tad Adhoc however if your information is valid and like an animal on the world like a taxidermist will show your work with style and a certain etiquette that can be merited within some time span or even (if your lucky a price bracket). Your best bet if money is what you want from the hunt of info then post a paypal system which could bring you donations from people who support your time and efforts. Taxonymy whoever like a hunt suggests that this will only include more evasive procedures to fleece you and enrich the corporations who wait to pounce. Who watch through this window on the world with new upgraded binoculaurs.

Report on the Tran cultural Research Talk at London Uni: OCT 2007

November 1, 2007

The Centre for Trans Cultural research (CTR) is interested in cultural transmissions both within and between dominant and marginal communities and the ways in which languages and discourses shape identities. This external lecture by Dr Horst Simon a German who currently lectures at King’s College was on ‘How politeness shapes the structure of languages’. It was thought he would seek to explore a range of different perspectives and drew on research from sociolinguistics, literacy’s, translation and sociology for which he delivered ostentatiously and additionally was supported by the diverse audiences original Bi-Lingual experience. Incidentally it was mentioned at the beginning that Dr Simon has a PHD in Linguistics and he mentioned that he specialised in Grammar.

The lecture on Tuesday 30 October 2007 took place in the Metropolitan North’s Tower Building room GCG-09 and was an open meeting supportively it was bulletined upon the messages board of the Metro link (additional internal link for students within the London Metropolitan Website). Everyone was welcome, refreshments and snacks were provided (Wine, and Pretzels) and it was not only well attended by many of the Language staff of the Uni. But also was most enlightening. His unique theories and supportive research seemed extremely entertaining and throughout the 1½ hrs he read his audience well and was aware when he was slipping into deep analogies of the sometimes confusing terminology.

His introduction of politeness through the face and how this Culturally differs was great, it opened up a world of really wanting to know what he had to say. His book worm glasses and witty jokes made this talk not only bearable but thoroughly enjoyable bearing in mind the sometimes overly covert information available. He mentioned an abundance of historical evidence from Languages that I did not even know existed, some of the staff even looked surprised at the depths within which he extracted his data. He utilised his words well often going back on what first seemed trivial unexpected humour to support his message.

Dr. Simon provided many hand-outs and the room although small compared to the attendance was great, everyone got a seat and the acoustics of the room was good. The only disturbance was from a banging on the outside window of the room, some lunatic decided to bang evasively from outside the Uni. The Metropolitan is on the high Street of Holloway so these things are to be expected, but the bang seemed so loud every body seemed startled another good indication that not only are the acoustics of the room good but more importantly how entranced the audience was of the subject.

His bibliography submitted was 50% German this I found interesting and left me feeling that maybe Germany maybe had some deeper understanding of Socio-linguistics, he also suggested metaphorically his sexual liberation by choosing an analogy of explaining a subject question posed towards the end of the hour and a half talk. The Freudian penis theory. Need I say more. However overall by using the Bavarian Contemporary examples of German Language and the surrounding Germanic Romance Languages like English, and included Danish, Dutch and French you could not help but be fascinated with what German’s have produced within the topic of Language Studies. A topic that again is culturally diverse and very important within the structure of today’s academia.

He left us with this thought of thinking what can be improved within politeness and the ‘from the face analogy’ of what is affective in one country can eventually be adopted by another to create this seemingly more affective and united way of living our lives. A How to of Evolved pleasantries. Outlined by the reassurance of the audiences examples as an addition to what Horst provided. Examples of recently expired sayings within the Italian Monarchy or the Marital labels of man and woman within matrimony, to the Polish uncertainties of Polish Grammars Skis and Schlep or Sku? Or just pointing out the difference of using grammar within Mandarin at the offset.

In conclusion I would recommend students to follow the links posted on Metro net, maybe even note them down or enter them within your reminders, after all this lecture was free. You can always tell at these events how good they may be as in this case by the audience. Look around recognise a few players, if so the must me in the right place.
