his trend is bad news for the television networks!

The Internet offers television’s former viewing audience better entertainment because they can do, see and hear what they want and when they want. The big television networks no longer have a monopoly on the public’s entertainment and mind share.

To make matters worse… with the advent of DVR (digital video recorders) less and less people are watching television commercials (the lifeblood of the major TV networks). The average person with Internet access is spending 4 times longer online than watching TV. The effectiveness of television advertising is dwindling exponentially and to make matters worse, 90% of DVR owners are fast forwarding through television commercials! http://www.sellingppp.com/a.cgi?ppp1208147916

Language and Structure

January 25, 2008

DobbsRobert Languages are Structured, but the structures concerned are only partly systematic and interrelated. Explain and illustrate.

In order to illustrate I have chose an English theorist Saussure, he said language is a systematic structure linking thought and sound; he said language sounds be a serieDobbsRoberts of arbitrary linguistic signs. Therefore only some parts are systematic if for example grammar explains structured language  by concentrating on compound and complex sentences and different kinds of subordinate clauses then there will be many variables. Additionally in the example of nouns modified by adjectives but not by adverbs then this lexically is not related however it is interrelated. The second explanation is that Saussure said the language system and its usage would be determined from memories. However Chomsky said competence and performance can be full competence, reduced competence and thirdly he provides only a lexical thematic hypothesis. For example the English verb know is connected to knowing but when translated in French knowing is two verbs together so again this is only partly systematic. This link between words and phrases at early acquisition stages only represents an illustration the broad relations in the argument of noun phrases. Lexical Learning though does not predict language development in terms of change. In conclusion students language is only partly structured because studies have proved communication is innate, however in education the system of acquiring knowledge as a student is a different kettle of fish.

Explain and exemplify what you understand by the term ‘adverb.’ Do you agree that it is more helpful to sub-divide this word class into one or more different sub-classes?

Adverb (Adv) is one of the essential eight parts of speech in English. An example in English is the word ‘backwards’ in this answer of a question. How do you walk? I walk backwards. If you split up this word back is the good verb however wards seems an unusual Morphological paradigm. Sub classes have been set up to avoid these strange classes. A sub –class of this is adverbial phrase (Adv) and is called sometimes adjunct i.e. urgently Adverbs can be used to described time ie yesterday. Verbs are however in other languages words are built from just adjectives. TakeDobbsRobert French for example these adverbs would be called feminine adjectives. Verbs are connected always to adjectives however a linking verb can have an adverb next to it. Adverbs are an important part of the English curriculum and are called heterogonous however in Language acquisitions adverbs are confusing. That is why these sub-classes I feel must exist.

Tour of Duty

January 19, 2008

The top of my priorities this millennium is to search for the truth. I am fascinated with the knowledge being shared over the internet. But more importantly the internet has inspired me to contribute to this. Be it about the truth of Democracy, truth of words, wars and wheels. Like the 360 degree’s we measure as a wheel turns, so to does the research I hope to research. For my first post I will post my submission to Delinquents 5 on my analyse of two British Hangmen and how there work was important then and important today. Wicki or wickapedia are all good trusted sources, however I will be consulting paper books. I have membership with London’s British museum and am prepared to do appropriate research if A: I approve of your request and B: I have time and a good memory of what was mentioned. I hope to talk about more uplifting topics and assume I will not bore you with my trivial revelations. (remember I am an amateur trying to achieve something more than casual existence. Survival is knowledge and the tour of Duty was a ploy that although ambiguous is poignant and fitting for my first pleasantries. Additionally I will hope to get to some locations mentioned and hope to take photographs, record transcripts of any important interviews and continually utilise the video’s already available on veo, youtube, myspace and laughordie. Please add me as a friend and I will do my utmost to begin proceedings.
